The Accuracy of Equilibrium Methods of Slope Stability Analysis

Duncan and Wright compare the accuracy of common two-dimensional limit-equilibrium methods, including ordinary slices, Bishop, Janbu, Spencer and Morgenstern-Price. They benchmark these against more rigorous solutions and finite-element analyses and quantify differences in calculated factors of safety for typical problems.
