Gibson applies the Cell Method (a numerical discretisation technique) to wedge-stability problems, allowing direct computation of forces and stress states on polyhedral rock blocks. The method avoids assumptions on interslice forces and handles non-linear joint behaviour. Comparisons with limit-equilibrium wedge models show close agreement with improved insight into stress transfer.
