Stability Assessment of Slopes Using Different Factoring Strategies

Pantelidis and Griffiths analyse how alternative factoring strategies (factoring c, φ, γ, or combinations) influence calculated factors of safety in FEM-based slope stability assessments. They show that traditional strength reduction may not reflect sensitivity to pore pressures or seismic coefficients, and that factoring loads or total stress states can yield different stability margins.
