Robust Geotechnical Design of Earth Slopes Using Fuzzy Sets

Gong et al. propose a fuzzy-set-based approach for slope design that addresses uncertainty in soil properties, loads and groundwater. The method allows designers to incorporate imprecision in parameters without requiring full probabilistic distributions. Examples show how fuzzy membership functions can generate robust design envelopes and conservative safety margins for earth slopes.
