Sun evaluates three modelling approaches—Limit Equilibrium Method (LEM), Strength Reduction Method (SRM/FEM), and Discrete Element Method (DEM)—and applies them to homogeneous slopes, layered deposits, and complex failure mechanisms. The paper shows that LEM performs well for simple geometries, SRM captures progressive failure and strain-softening effects, and DEM provides insight into blocky or discontinuous behaviour.
