Limitations of Transient Seepage Analyses for Calculating Pore Pressures During External Water Level Changes

VandenBerge, Duncan and Brandon show that transient seepage models can mispredict pore pressures during rapid drawdown or fluctuating water levels due to assumptions about drainage boundaries, hydraulic conductivity and anisotropy. Errors may lead to unconservative or overly conservative FS estimates depending on soil response.
