Stability Analysis of Rock Slopes for Plane and Wedge Failure with the Aid of a Programmable Pocket Calculator

Kovári and Fritz present methods for analysing plane and wedge failures in rock slopes using a programmable calculator. They derive equations for sliding along planar discontinuities and for wedges formed by intersecting planes, considering geometry, joint friction and water pressures. Worked examples show how the procedures can be applied routinely in design.
