Merry and Du analyse a Sacramento River levee with pronounced curvature and compare 2D plane strain modelling with axisymmetric modelling. They show plane strain assumptions may underpredict gradients and factors of safety in convex bends. Axisymmetric modelling captures flow convergence and yields more conservative results.
