Chugh and Griffiths analyse the 1981 San Luis Dam slide using limit-equilibrium and finite-element methods. The study examines failure geometry, shear-strength variability, pore-pressure conditions and progressive failure. Back-analysis shows that strain-softening behaviour and spatial variability of shear strength were key to matching observed deformations. The paper provides a detailed reconstruction of the slide and highlights the importance of using realistic pore-pressure conditions in embankment analysis.
