Slope Stability Evaluations by Limit Equilibrium and Finite Element Methods

Aryal’s PhD thesis systematically compares limit-equilibrium and finite-element approaches for slope stability evaluation. It develops procedures for extracting equivalent factors of safety from stress-strain analyses and studies how soil constitutive models, stiffness and strength non-linearity affect results. The work includes several embankment and natural slope case histories to demonstrate practical differences between LE- and FE-based assessments.
