Thrust Line Criterion in Embankment Stability Analysis

Spencer extends his limit-equilibrium work by examining the thrust line criterion in embankments. He relates interslice forces and stress resultants to internal thrust lines and discusses when calculated stress fields are statically admissible. Examples show how thrust line positions change with pore pressures, loading and geometry, and how this relates to overall stability.
