Use of Computers for Slope Stability Analysis

Whitman and Bailey describe how digital computers can be used to automate slice-based slope stability analyses. They discuss data input, numerical solution procedures and treatment of pore pressures and strength parameters on early computer systems. The paper stresses that computerisation does not replace engineering judgement and highlights the need for checks and sensitivity analyses.
