Multiplicity of Solutions for Slope Stability Problems

Chugh investigates the existence of multiple admissible solutions in limit-equilibrium slope stability problems. He shows that different combinations of slip-surface shape, interslice forces and numerical procedures can yield more than one factor of safety that satisfies equilibrium. The paper discusses how numerical algorithms may converge to different local optima and the implications for engineering judgement.
